Choosing the right WOCA Exterior Wood Oil colour

If your outdoor furniture is made from premium timber like Jarrah, Merbau, Spotted Gum or Blackbutt, the natural inclination is to opt for a clear coating to highlight the timber's natural beauty.

However, this often results in premature fading or oxidation of the timber, as natural coatings do not contain pigments.

The extreme UV conditions in Australia accelerate colour fade, so we recommend choosing a pigmented version of WOCA Exterior Wood Oil to protect your outdoor wood furniture properly.

When you aim to highlight the timber's natural beauty, adding coloured oil to your furniture may sound odd. However, selecting the correct colour to match the timber species will produce the same look as a clear coating but with extra protection – like sunscreen for your furniture.

Step-by-step guide for outdoor timber furniture restoration

        STEP 1: Patch test:

        ● Always test WOCA Denmark products in an inconspicuous area to check they are compatible with your timber

        STEP 2: Clean the timber

        ● Thoroughly wet the timber using a garden hose
        ● Prepare the WOCA Denmark Exterior Cleaner by mixing in a 1-part cleaner to 2-parts water ratio in a clean bucket
        ● Scrub the timber with the scrubbing brush
        ● Rinse the timber with the garden hose, ensuring all dirt and cleaning solution is rinsed away
        ● Repeat if necessary
        ● Allow to dry for at least 48 hours

          STEP 3: Buff the timber

          ● Once dry, use the maroon pad or sandpaper to buff the wood to remove any rough fibres

STEP 4: Prepare to oil the timber

            ● Check the weather forecast! You cannot apply the oil during wet weather, so if you plan to work outdoors, please choose a dry day.
            ● If it rains on your furniture after you've cleaned it but before you've oiled it, please allow 24 hours for it to dry before applying the oil.
            ● It takes 24-48 hours at 20°C for the oil to harden thoroughly, and the wood must not get wet during this period.

              STEP 5: Apply the oil

               ● Use the paintbrush to apply the oil in a thin, even layer
               ● If oil puddles appear in the timber's joints and grooves, wipe them off immediately with a lint-free cloth
              ● After a few minutes, the wood should look like it is saturated with oil
              ● A second coat can be applied the following day using the same brush-on wipe-off process
              ● Leave to dry for 24- 48 hours. Please do not touch the timber furniture as it is drying

              ●  Please store leftover oil in a cool, dry place
              ● All oil-soaked rags and cloths must be soaked in water before disposal to avoid the risk of self-ignition
              ● Clean paint brush in warm, soapy water
